SANF GREENMENS PVT LTD- Need For Accommodation and Toilets On The Farm
Constructing a room in your farmland can help assist you or your workers through times of intense labour requirements, such as thinning and harvesting. This form of housing is expected to be minimal and communal in nature. When you set up the room, make sure it has the necessary amenities in place, such as a washbasin, toilet facility, a refrigerator unit, one unit stove, etc.
It is equally important that there are clean and accessible toilet facilities on the farm site for all workers and visitors to use. Proper field sanitation can significantly reduce the potential for contaminating produce and helps protect workers and consumers from foodborne diseases.
Location and Number of rooms and toilets
Toilet facilities and the room(s) should be in close proximity from all workers working in the fields. Toilets in your farmland should be separated from the growing fields by a barrier such as a field road, ditch, non-produce vegetation such as a hedgerow or shelter belt, or distant enough to prevent accidental spillage or flooding, which otherwise might contaminate production areas. There must be at least one toilet facility and one hand-washing facility in your farm.
Easy Accessibility
Location is of the most importance. The easier it is to use the toilets or rooms, the greater the likelihood that they will be used. Workers should always have the opportunity to use the toilets when they need to, not only when they are on break. Same applies for visitors when they visit your site. They should have easy access to the room. Having a toilet close by reduces the likelihood of workers using inappropriate locations, such as the produce growing fields and surrounding areas.
Other features for toilets
When setting up a toilet in your field, construct in areas where they will not cause contamination to produce growing and handling areas from runoff due to heavy rains or being accidentally knocked over. You should also not build the toilet near irrigation or wash water source areas, as you would not like to run the risk of polluting soil, water sources, produce, animals and workers with runoff from improperly constructed or located toilets. Keep the toilet(s) clean at all times and it should be well-supplied, such as hand-wash, soaps, enough hand towels for single use (paper or washable cloth) and a container for used hand towels. Schedule regular cleaning times and adjust cleaning frequency as required.
